As a parent and a proven school and community organizer, I’m eager to serve Princeton’s Board of Education. With three kids in the Princeton Public School (PPS) system, I’m committed to building consensus and seeing our schools strengthened!

What’s My Background?

Trained in scientific writing, analysis and research, I want to use my analytical skills to work with Board members, parents and teachers to strengthen our school system. Now, as a parent and enthusiastic volunteer for Littlebrook and John Witherspoon, I am keenly aware of the many devoted teachers in our schools, as well as our diverse student needs. Please read on to learn more about my qualifications and experience:

Experienced Analyst: With a BS in biology from James Madison University and an MS in physiology from UCLA, I spent ten years in scientific work at UCLA, Duke and Lockheed Martin.

LB Science Expo Coordinator: At Littlebrook Elementary School, I lead the annual Science Expo — a full day where science completely takes over the school. Working with our devoted Science Teacher to recruit and organize about 40 parents and community members is no small feat, but it’s worth it.

LB Garden Coordinator: Also at Littlebrook, I have been a champion for our wonderful School Garden, not only assisting in its year-round care but also promoting the garden to parents and recruiting volunteers.

LB Green Team Member: Littlebrook’s Green Team is relatively new, and I’ve been thrilled to work with teachers, parents and administrators to lead its rapid growth. Last year, Littlebrook won the statewide TREX Recycling Challenge, and this year we filed for certification for Sustainable Jersey for Schools.

Former LB Chess Coordinator: For several years, I promoted the after-school chess club to Littlebrook parents; organized about 60 kids into three classes based on ability level; recruited and managed chess instructors; and modernized the registration process.

JW VP for Communications: Excited to learn about the many activities offered by the John Witherspoon Middle School, I joined the JW PTO Board last year and have enjoyed promoting these events to parents through newsletters and a website.

PPS Green Team Committee Member: After learning that the district’s first attempt to bring in composting was not successful, I joined this committee and worked with others to successfully roll-out our new composting contract at every PPS school.

Complete Streets Committee Member: As a community activist, I currently work with eight other citizens and town officials to coordinate, monitor, evaluate and provide advice to the Mayor, Council and the Planning Board concerning implementation of the Complete Streets Policy.

Co-Leader of Sustainability at The Jewish Center: As a member of the Social Action Committee, I’ve been delighted to work with others to bring a modern waste system to the TJC and continuously work to educate the public.

What Else? When I’m not doing all of the above or caring for my family, I’m an active outdoor enthusiast. Hiking and biking are at the top of my list, as is managing everything in my backyard, including several fruit trees, a few laying hens, honey bees, a frog pond, and of course, a dog who helps me oversee it all.

What Can I Provide?

As a member of the Board, I intend to provide a welcome mat and an open door policy. With a strong willingness to listen and learn, combined with thoughtful analysis and persistence, I can add a meaningful dialogue to the Board. And perhaps most importantly, I am willing to ask the hard questions to ensure the Board has a variety of voices that truly reflect our diverse population.
